Haven't posted to this blog in forever, but thought I would start again. So here are a few pictures of life lately.

Trip to Minneapolis

Juan and I went to Minneapolis a couple of weeks ago for Juan's youngest brother, Joseph's MBA graduation. It was a great weekend, and we had a really fun time with the family.

Pizza with Friends

Life has been fun lately...in an everyday sort of way. For example, last Saturday night, our friends Kyra and Kiana spent the night at our house and we made homemade pizzas! We bought already made dough at Trader Joe's (our favorite grocery store) and then we went to Safeway to get pepperoni, olives, and a few other things!

The pizzas (which were rectangular) were wonderful! (I'm sure it was because we were working with such excellent chefs.) We then watched the animated movie Cars, and we all really liked it (except for me, who missed the end because I fell asleep!).

Now THAT'S a fish story!

I forgot to include the most important picture from our trip to Lake Almanor a couple weeks ago. We went fishing at Eagle Lake, and here's one of the pictures we took while we were there...

Faster, faster, faster...

As I type this blog, we are in Lassen County with our good friends, Joy and Scott Duncan. We've come up for the weekend, to try out Scott's new "quads," to see their cabin, and just to get away for a fun weekend.

We left Santa Cruz at 5:00 am this morning and got here about 11:30, after stopping a couple of times for gas, breakfast, etc. It was a pretty drive, and went by quickly.

Scott and Joy's cabin is in the small town of Westwood, California. It's near Lake Almanor and the town of Chester, California, an area that is supposed to have a lot of growth in the next few years. They are planning to put in a new ski resort called Dyer Mountain near here. It's pretty interesting - google "Dyer Mountain" and you can read a bit about it.

All in all, we have had a GREAT time here.

Strawberries and Cream

Juan brought really yummy strawberries home from work today. They look average, but they taste really good. They're the really huge kind that are grown in Watsonville (and other places, I suppose, but I know they are grown in Watsonville. We happened to have some cream cheese in the fridge, and so Juan looked up recipes that could be made with strawberries and cream cheese. What he found: strawberries and cream. Just that - strawberries and cream cheese. Put them in the food processor (we have one now - a small one that we bought at Bed, Bath and Beyond a couple of weeks ago), blend, and...the recipe doesn't say what to do with the mixture next. Maybe put it on bagels? We don't have any bagels, but we do have a little bit of bread leftover from when some friends came over last weekend. Any suggestions on what we should do with our strawberries and cream?

On another note, I got a new CD today - Bebo Norman "Between the Dreaming and the Coming True." I've been listening to it over and over again at work, so today I finally got my own copy. Check it out here.

My favorite song: Sunday

"It just feels right kissing on a Sunday
I'll hold you tight as if it were the last day
With all my might, I will keep the world away
It just feels right kissing you on a Sunday."

Here's a picture of us from December 2004

Our first day of blogging!

Ok - so this is our very first day of our blog. We'd just thought we'd try it out.

Maybe some of our friends and family in Texas will enjoy checking it out so they can hear a little bit more about our day to day lives in California.

We just returned from a short weekend trip to Cambria, California. We left early-ish on Saturday morning and drove down (it took about 3 hours), had lunch at a place called Robin's in the town of Cambria and then went to Hearst Castle for a tour. Really fascinating place! We took tons of pictures. I'll put some on here, but know that there were so many I couldn't decide which ones to share...it's that picturesque!

Then we went and checked into the place where we were staying, the Cambria Pines Lodge (at the reccommendation of our friends Bill and Patrice Fernald!). Neat place!

After dinner, we spent a short time walking through the gardens at Cambria Pines, but there's not much to see in a garden after dark, so we called it a day and headed back to our room. This morning we got up early, had breakfast at the lodge, and headed back to Santa Cruz in time for church. (Ok, we were about 15 minutes late, but that's not bad considering that how far we drove!)

All in all, it was a good, albeit quick, weekend - and a place we hope to visit again. After I figure out if I'm doing this right, I'll try to add in some pictures from Hearst Castle.

Thanks for visiting our blog! We hope to add more later!
